Take a Course on Us
Take A Course On Us Program offers a limited number of high school seniors the opportunity to take a class at Ivy Tech Community College during the spring semester of their senior year. Students accepted into the "Take A Course On Us" program may take an Ivy Tech Community College - Terre Haute at NO CHARGE for tuition. Students are expected to pay for books and expenses.   Applications for TACOU are available from high school counselors at Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South, and West Vigo High School. Applications will be available in November.   Interested students should contact Jessie Samuels or their high school guidance counselor.

Dual Credit
The College has developed a new set of articulation agreements with regional high schools. These agreements grant Ivy Tech credit to high school students for courses they take while they are in high school. The College records this credit on a transcript and assigns a grade for the course using the grade provided by the high school teacher. To ensure that the credit is appropriate, agreements were developed with input from the Ivy Tech faculty and the high school faculty. Periodic meetings are held for the high school/Ivy Tech faculty to discuss content, etc. The College has dual credit agreements in automotive, auto body, accounting, graphics/visual communication, CAD/drafting, electronics, medical terminology, computer information systems, administrative office technology, and welding.

The College also grants credit for high school courses that have been specifically designed to mirror Ivy Tech courses. In this case, the textbook, syllabus, handouts, etc. used in the Ivy Tech course are used in the high school course. High school faculty and Ivy Tech faculty work together to make sure the course at the high school is the same as the course at Ivy Tech. This process is different than dual credit in that the credit is not based on common overlap between the Ivy Tech course and a high school course but is based on a high school course developed and modeled after the Ivy Tech course. The College has initiatives of this nature for courses in manufacturing processes, quality science, plastics and CAD.

For all the initiatives described above, the high school and the high school students do not pay any money to Ivy Tech Community College. Credit is granted without tuition or fees of any kind. In addition, credit is granted regardless of whether the student eventually attends Ivy Tech or not.

The final program in Tech Prep involves high school students coming to the Ivy Tech campus (Main Campus or Center for Workforce Development) and taking a course with Ivy Tech instructors. These students may be in a regular course with normal Ivy Tech students or (if there is a large enough group of them) in a course by themselves. The College has this program in place for Auto Body, CAD, and Aviation. The High Schools/Vocational Districts pay all of the tuition costs for the students in this program. The students are required to buy the books and materials they may need for classes.
