Senior Scholars Program
Ivy Tech Community College – Wabash Valley offers qualified Indiana senior citizens an opportunity to enroll in credit courses at the college with no tuition cost!

Qualifications

Ivy Tech Senior Scholar candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  1. An Indiana resident
  2. At least 60 years of age
  3. High School Graduate or GED Recipient
  4. Retired from primary vocation
  5. Not employed full time
Course Options The Senior Scholars Program extends to Ivy Tech’s wide array of credit course offerings. The college currently offers more than 2,000 courses in five divisions: Business, General Education and Support Services, Health and Human Services, Technology and Visual Communications. Some courses do require a pre-requisite, which must be met before enrollment is permitted. Enrollment may also be restricted in some courses which are part of a degree program. Not all courses are available at each location.

Seniors are also eligible to take courses delivered by distance education or through the internet. A variety of courses are delivered via satellite from one college or university campus to learning centers located throughout Indiana. The college also delivers courses directly to students via cable television, public broadcasting, video tapes or the internet.

The Senior Scholars Program applies to credit courses only. Classes must be taken for a letter grade; Senior Scholars may not audit classes. Non-credit courses and special training programs offered by the College’s Corporate and Continuing Education (CCES) are not eligible. If individuals take (CCES) courses on an occasional basis, and their fees are not paid for by an employer, or a “third party,” they may apply for the Senior Scholar tuition waiver if all other criteria are met.

Tuition and Fees While tuition for the Senior Scholars Program is free, students will still be responsible for books and supplies; some specialized courses may also involve a fee for consumable materials. In addition, Senior Scholars must also pay the technology fee. For a listing of fees and tuition savings, please refer www.goivytech.net/fees.html.

How to Enroll To enroll in the Senior Scholars Program, residents must do the following:

  • Certify that the five qualifications of the program are met.
  • Complete a tuition exemption certification form;(provided by the Admission Office) this form should be turned in at the time of registration.
  • Provide proof of pre-requisites (if applicable).
  • Enroll in the eligible course(s) desired, filling out all necessary course reservation forms during the appropriate registration period. Senior Scholars will not be required to complete the college’s application process unless they decide to earn a degree.
