Use these tips when creating your resume!
Heading. Use your name, address, telephone number and e-mail on the top of each page.
- It is ok to use your cell phone number.
- Only use your name and e-mail on your resume when applying online. This helps to keep you safe.
- Make sure your e-mail address sounds is professional (don’t use ladybug123@yahoo.com for your address).
Objective. Make your objective center around what you can do for the employer, not what the employer can do for you - and mention key skills you have.
- Bad: "To get a full time job with benefits in which I can advance."
- Good: "To obtain a position as a Registered Nurse in which I can use my education and pediatric training and experience to benefit my patients, their families, and the healthcare team."
Education. Include the following:
- Your Degree
- Your Program/Specialty
- Your School
- Anticipated Graduation Date or Degree Awarded
- GPA (if it is above a 3.0)
- Related coursework (as appropriate)
Experience. This section can include work, internship, clinical, practicum and/or extensive volunteer experience.
- Do include your title, company name, city, state, and dates you worked
- Don’t include the exact street address, supervisor name, hourly rate, or reason for leaving
- Do include your major responsibilities and use action words to describe them
- Do include numbers to help explain you role (ex. Hired, supervised, and trained 15 individuals)
- Do go back at least 10 years or your last 3 or 4 jobs
Other sections. Other sections can include:
- Memberships and leadership positions
- Volunteer Experience
- Summary of Skills
- Awards and Honors
- Extracurricular activities
