LPN to BS Program

Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana State University are pleased to announce a new opportunity for Licensed Practical Nurses. You now have the flexibility of completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing via distance learning.

This LPN-BS Program offers you a flexible pathway to continue your education. All courses are offered on-line (via the Internet) and clinical courses are arranged in the student’s community. Best of all, the program is designed for the practicing LPN who has completed the Ivy Tech Practical Nursing Program. This program enables the LPN to transfer all applicable credit to Indiana State University and then complete a bachelor degree through a combination of courses offered by Ivy Tech and Indiana State University.

The LPN-BS Program consists of three phases:

1. Phase I: Lower Division General Education 36-42 Credits
Courses in this phase are offered at Ivy Tech Community College Wabash Valley Region-Terre Haute.

2. Phase II: Nursing Prerequisite Courses 15 Credits
Courses in this phase are satisfied entirely by ISU departmental challenge exams (credit by examination). With successful completion of departmental exams, no on-campus or on-line course work is required.

3. Phase III: Baccalaureate-Level Nursing Courses 70 Credits
Courses in this phase are offered on-line (via the Internet) by Indiana State University. Clinicals are arranged in the student’s community.

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, the LPN is awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana State University, and is eligible to apply for examination for licensure to practice as a registered nurse (R.N.). Indiana State University is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and the Indiana State Board of Nursing.

The program is challenging, however assistance is available throughout the process. Students benefit from a comprehensive package of student services designed for working adults. Services include streamlined advisement and assistance with admission, credit transfer, registration, and financial aid. In addition, students have the option of full-time or part-time study.

Information for this program is only available on-line; there are not additional printed materials.

Visit Indiana State University’s Website for additional information and course required for each phase
