Automotive Service/Auto Body
Automotive Technology offers two specialties - Automotive Service and Automotive Body Repair.
AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE
If you have ever considered a career as an Automotive Service Technician, check out Ivy Tech's program!
All the major elements of automotive service, diagnostics and repair are covered in this program which emphasizes the "hands-on" learning approach.
You will learn from A.S.E certified instructors on the most modern equipment available.
Courses are arranged so that you may complete the program on a full-or part-time basis.
You may even choose to take evening courses.
Upon completion of the Automotive Service program at Ivy Tech, you will find yourself prepared for employment in a broad range of automotive service occupations, such as Auto Service Technician, Shop Manager, Parts Specialist, etc.
In addition to actual automotive repair, you may find yourself involved with inventory management, scheduling, customer service and business operations.
AUTOMOTIVE BODY REPAIR
Unibody construction and synthetic materials have made advanced training in automotive body repair more and more important for those just entering the field and also for those who are currently working.
The Auto Body Repair Specialty at Ivy Tech is designed to teach the skills you need to repair today's autobody.
If you have always wanted to work on cars, you can turn your hobby into a lifelong career.
Within the program, you will study not only the major concepts of body repair, such as auto plastics and fiberglass, estimating, painting and refinishing, and frame repair, but you will also address the newer concerns of environmental control.
Your career options will not be limited upon completion of the one-year program.
You may choose to work as a Body Repair Technician, or you can be employed as an Insurance Adjuster, Damage Appraiser, Body Manufacturing Representative or Parts Manager.
Your responsibility in any of these careers will be broad and may include such duties as personnel management, basic bookkeeping, inventory management and interpersonal skills.
