Business Administration
Whether your career goal is to start your own business, to advance your career in an existing business, or to continue your education at a four-year institution, the Business Administration program at Ivy Tech Community College can be a stepping stone on your path to success. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration will provide outstanding career opportunities by giving you new job skills or by improving the ones you already possess. You may choose to specialize in Management, Marketing, Financial Services or Human Resource Management depending upon your area of interest. The Associate of Science degree in Business Administration or Sport Management will allow you to transfer into Indiana State University’s College of Business or College of Health and Human Performance respectively. These degrees can be completed through both land-based and Internet-based course offerings.
You will find smaller class sizes at Ivy Tech Community College, Wabash Valley Region than offered at many of our sister institutions. Our talented faculty possess both academic credentials and real-world work experience that enable them to teach both the theory and reality of the business world. When you add these two features to the fact that our classes are affordable, you will have good reason for becoming part of the Ivy Tech family.
The management concentration focuses on developing students for management careers in both small and medium-sized organizations in various industries. Students will learn to apply general management theory to manufacturing, retailing, or service oriented businesses so that they may be more efficient and effective in utilizing the organizations' various resources.
The marketing concentration develops students for career opportunities in (but not limited to) advertising, distribution, professional sales, retailing management, and merchandising. Employment possibilities exist in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Those interested in careers in financial institutions should choose the financial services concentration. This specialty prepares students for careers in commercial banks, savings and loan institutions, credit unions and other lending institutions by way of classes such as principles of banking, personal finance, and consumer lending.
Our newest concentration is that of Human Resource Management. While this is an Associate of Applied Science degree, it transfers to the College of Technology at Indiana State University. Students that enroll in this program will gain knowledge and skills in the strategic planning and administration of recruitment, staffing, compensation and benefits, employment law, labor relations, and occupational safety and health.
A completely transferable Associate of Science degree in Business Administration is also available. This degree prepares students to enter a four-year business degree program at Indiana State University as a junior. Many of our past students have found this program to be very helpful in preparing them for study at the bachelor's degree level.
Our Associate of Science in Sport Management transfers to Indiana State University's College of Health and Human Performance. If you have a passion for sports and a mind for business, a career in Sport Management combines them both by applying practical business skills to the contemporary sports industry. Having a degree in this highly competitive field will let you stand out beyond the rest.
Opportunities for Sport Management graduates may include sports team management, community recreation (YMCA, community centers or after-school programs), health and wellness (health and fitness centers, spas and resorts), and facilities and arena management.
