Computer Information Systems and Technology
The past few decades have seen remarkable changes in technology. As a result the computer has found its way into businesses, industries and homes in a substantial way. The need for trained professionals in the field of computer technology has never been greater.

The Computer Information Systems and Technology Department houses two programs that prepare the student for a variety of positions related to the computer industry.

Computer Information Systems(CIS):

Information Systems (I.S.) is an area of computing that finds itself attached in a large way to the business world. I.S. professionals are the people who deal with the management of information, making sure that it arrives accurately, securely, and in a timely manner. An integral part of I.S. involves programming. The Programming Specialty introduces the student to three languages common to the industry; namely, C++, Visual Basic and JAVA, and will be prepared to take an entry level position as a programmer or programmer analyst within a company. The curriculum leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree in the field.

The second specialty within CIS is an Associate of Science degree in Information Technology that can send the student immediately into the work world, or can be transferred to Indiana State University, where the student can choose one of three academic paths: Computer Science, Management of Information Systems or (Information) Technology.

Computer Information Technology:

The Computer Information Technology Program prepares the student for a variety of positions including PC Coordinator, PC Technician, Network Technician, and Network Administrator. There are three separate tracks that the student can pursue: PC Support and Administration, Windows Networking and CISCO Networking. These curricula will each lead to an Associate of Applied Science Degree and would prepare the student to enter the workforce immediately.

The career opportunities are varied and inviting to those who like being around the computer. If the student has good communication and people skills as well as good technical skills, there are great chances for advancement, both in level and pay.

Several of the above specialties include training for vendor certifications. Among the certifications a student can earn are the A+, Network +, Linux+, Windows Server, Windows Client, MCSA and the CCNA. It is possible for the student to complete his/her program of choice and earn a degree as well as professional certifications, a great combination of credentials to take with you to the job interview.
