
Radiologic Technology Program
Dear
Radiologic Technology Applicant,
In
this packet, you will find the application, portfolio information, evaluation
grid, and information session form. The Application for Admission to the Rad
Tech program is also available on-line and must be submitted no later than November
1, 2008. After submitting your application, you will prepare a portfolio that
includes a cover sheet, the request for application, the evaluation grid, a
copy of your TEAS test scores, a copy of your transcripts (from Ivy Tech and
any other prior colleges), the signed information session form, and a written essay.
It is your responsibility to turn in the completed required portfolio
paperwork.
All
forms and reports should be placed in a portfolio and turned into Radiologic
Technology program. Four (4)100 level required general education courses (see
page 3 of this packet for those courses) and Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) must
be completed by December 31, 2008 to be eligible to submit a portfolio. The
current cost of the TEAS is $35. The last five (5) general education courses (see
page 9 of this packet) must
be completed the by end of the Spring 2009 semester with an average GPA of 3.0.
The final portfolio packet is due by January 2, 2009. No late portfolios will be accepted.

Application to the program (either
on-line or paper) is due by November 1, 2008 and the other required documents are to be put in a portfolio that is due by January 2, 2009.
The
Radiologic Technology program has a limited enrollment based on clinical site
availability. Application, completion of suggested course sequence, and/or
completion of TEAS does not guarantee admission into the program. Once all documentation has been
received and your eligibility verified, you will receive a letter as to the final
selection.

Points for the TEAS: Point totals will be taken from the above areas and a decimal point will be placed between numbers (example: 82% is equal to 8.2 points). A score of 70% or higher is recommended in the above areas.

INFORMATION SESSION FORM
· Students must have an application on file for the Rad Tech program before attending an information session.

Each applicant
is required to attend one Information Session and include the signed form in
the portfolio.
· Students will be provided information about the Rad Tech program and view a video.
· Students will be provided with information regarding Rad Tech hybrid classes.
· Students will be provided with information on the required general education courses needed for the program.
· Students will be provided with information on the TEAS test which must be completed by December 31, 2008 and include the results in the portfolio.
· Students will be provided with information on a research paper on the topic of "What is a Radiologic Technologist?" The research paper should be two or three pages in length, typed, double-spaced, and included in the portfolio.

RAD - Portfolio
The
following is an explanation about the process of accepting students into the
Ivy Tech Community College Radiologic Technology Program in
Acceptance into the Program: Acceptance into the Radiologic Technology
Program at Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute is a competitive one primarily
grades earned in the required four (4) general education courses and the TEAS
test scores. Your overall GPA is considered as well (tie-breaker).
Points for
the Program: For each letter
grade received in the four (4) prerequisites courses, the student will receive
points according to the following scales.
For ANP 101 and
MAT 111 Courses For
HHS 101 and ENG 111 Courses
A = 8
points A
= 4 points
B = 7 points B
= 3 points
C = 6 points C
= 2 points
D = 2 points D
= 1 point
TEAS Test Scores: Point
totals will be taken from Science, Math, Reading, and English areas and a decimal
point will be placed between numbers (example: 73% is equal to 7.3 points). The
points from the TEAS will be added to the point totals from the above general
education courses. A copy of the TEAS test results must be included in the
portfolio. You may take the TEAS test up to three (3) times in two (2) years at
your own expense. You must wait 30 days between retakes. A minimum score of 70%
or above is recommended.
Portfolio Earned
Points: ~Only students who turn in a complete portfolio by January 2nd
will be eligible to for consideration for the 2009 RAD program~
The Application: If the application is not received by the due date, the student will not be eligible to submit the portfolio. Please include a copy of the request for application after the cover page of you portfolio.
The Information Session: The Information Session
form needs to be signed and included in the portfolio.
The Research Paper: Each member of the RAD Tech
committee will read the report and can give the student points based on clarity
of writing, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation.
Paper
needs to be included in the portfolio.
The Evaluation Grid: Form needs to be completed
and included in the portfolio. For students that repeat a course more than
once, points will be taken off in this portion of the portfolio.
Copy of Transcripts: Transcripts need to be
included in the portfolio from Ivy Tech and
any other colleges attended. Transcripts can be official or unofficial (Ivy
Tech students can print transcripts from their student Campus Connect account.)

Final
Scores Tallied
All
points will be added together from the four (4) general education courses and
the TEAS test results. The total points will be placed in order from high to
low. The student(s) with the most points will be accepted into the Rad Tech
program. Overall GPA's will be used in case of a tie. The number of students
selected into the program is based on available clinical positions
Portfolio
Committee
Each
portfolio will be reviewed in February and acceptance, alternate, and
declination letters are sent by March 1st.
Other
Students
selected into the program will be required to attend an orientation session
where they will complete a criminal background check, course registration
(hybrid courses/clinicals) and required to have reliable transportation to all
clinical sites at the students own expense. (Financial Aid may cover some
program cost –check with your FA-Advisor)

Radiologic Technology Program
The mission of the Radiologic
Technology program at Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute is to train
Radiologic Technologists and to provide graduates with an entry-level training
program to enter the field of Radiologic Technology wherever they choose. This
entry-level training also allows graduates to continue their education in
specialty areas if they choose to do so.

Q. What do I do if I’ve already completed a college degree?
A. Have your official college transcripts sent to Terre Haute Ivy Tech to be evaluated. The evaluation will determine what classes will transfer and what additional courses need to be completed.
Q. How long is the Rad Tech program?
A. The actual Radiology Program is two years. However, because admission into the program is conditional…it often takes more than two years. The exact length will depend on your specific general education requirement and performance.
Q. Do I have to drive to Terre Haute for Rad Tech classes?
A. Yes, the program is Terre Haute based and students are required to attend classes at Terre Haute once a week and on-line (hybrid) at least three times a week.
Q. Should I fill out an application to the program after my General Education courses are complete or while taking my General Education?

A. Rad Tech courses are only offered during the daytime hours and on-line (hybrid). General Education courses can be completed day, evening, or via the Internet.
Q. How many students are selected into the Rad Tech program each fall?
A. Students are selected into the program each fall, based on clinical availability. Students are selected based on their performance in general education courses and the required portfolio.
Q. How do I specialize in Ultrasound Tech? Do you offer that?
A. Students are exposed to many specialties in their second year of the program; however, we do not currently train for the Ultrasound Specialty unless you are already a certified Rad Tech.
Q. How much does the Rad Tech program cost?
A. On an average, the Rad Tech program can cost between $8000.00 and $9,500.00. (books, tools, classes, uniforms, and gas to drive to clinical.)
Q. What if my criminal background check comes back positive?
A. The student may or may not be able to complete the program clinical portion of the program. The clinical portion is a requirement for graduation.

While there are no formal prerequisite courses for admission to the Radiology Program, the large number of applicants usually means that only those who complete the First Semester courses listed below and have completed the TEAS test will be considered for acceptance. Prospective students should also be aware that the competitive nature of the admissions process makes it unlikely individuals with grade point averages less than 3.0 (“B”) to be accepted (GPA is based on the courses list on this page). |
