Radiologic Technology Program

Dear Radiologic Technology Applicant,

In this packet, you will find the application, portfolio information, evaluation grid, and information session form. The Application for Admission to the Rad Tech program is also available on-line and must be submitted no later than November 1, 2008. After submitting your application, you will prepare a portfolio that includes a cover sheet, the request for application, the evaluation grid, a copy of your TEAS test scores, a copy of your transcripts (from Ivy Tech and any other prior colleges), the signed information session form, and a written essay. It is your responsibility to turn in the completed required portfolio paperwork.

All forms and reports should be placed in a portfolio and turned into Radiologic Technology program. Four (4)100 level required general education courses (see page 3 of this packet for those courses) and Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) must be completed by December 31, 2008 to be eligible to submit a portfolio. The current cost of the TEAS is $35. The last five (5) general education courses (see page 9 of this packet) must be completed the by end of the Spring 2009 semester with an average GPA of 3.0. The final portfolio packet is due by January 2, 2009. No late portfolios will be accepted.

Questions regarding the Rad Tech program or application process may be answered by Erin Cockrum, School of Health Sciences Administrative Assistant, at (812) 298-2239 or Lou Ann Wisbey, Rad Tech Program Chair, at (812) 298-2242.

Application to the program (either on-line or paper) is due by November 1, 2008 and the other required documents are to be put in a portfolio that is due by January 2, 2009.

The Radiologic Technology program has a limited enrollment based on clinical site availability. Application, completion of suggested course sequence, and/or completion of TEAS does not guarantee admission into the program. Once all documentation has been received and your eligibility verified, you will receive a letter as to the final selection.

Best of luck to all of you!

Radiologic Technology Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

FAQ

Q. What do I do if I’ve already completed a college degree?

A. Have your official college transcripts sent to Terre Haute Ivy Tech to be evaluated. The evaluation will determine what classes will transfer and what additional courses need to be completed.

Q. How long is the Rad Tech program?

A. The actual Radiology Program is two years.  However, because admission into the program is conditional…it often takes more than two years.  The exact length will depend on your specific general education requirement and performance.

Q. Do I have to drive to Terre Haute for Rad Tech classes?

A. Yes, the program is Terre Haute based and students are required to attend classes at Terre Haute once a week and on-line (hybrid) at least three times a week.

Q.  Should I fill out an application to the program after my General Education courses are complete or while taking my General Education?

A.  You should complete an application as soon as you have interest in the Radiology program www.goivytech.net/programs/radinterview.html

Q. I am attending another Ivy Tech at this present time, when do I need to put and application on file with the Terre Haute campus?

A. We suggest that you complete an application for the Terre Haute campus as soon as you have interest in completing the Radiology program.

Q. Do you offer Rad Tech courses at night?

A. Rad Tech courses are only offered during the daytime hours and on-line (hybrid). General Education courses can be completed day, evening, or via the Internet.

Q. How many students are selected into the Rad Tech program each fall?

A. Students are selected into the program each fall, based on clinical availability. Students are selected based on their performance in general education courses and the required portfolio.

Q. How do I specialize in Ultrasound Tech? Do you offer that?

A. Students are exposed to many specialties in their second year of the program; however, we do not currently train for the Ultrasound Specialty unless you are already a certified Rad Tech.

Q. How much does the Rad Tech program cost?

A. On an average, the Rad Tech program can cost between $8000.00 and $9,500.00. (books, tools, classes, uniforms, and gas to drive to clinical.)

Q. What if my criminal background check comes back positive?

A. The student may or may not be able to complete the program clinical portion of the program. The clinical portion is a requirement for graduation.

While there are no formal prerequisite courses for admission to the Radiology Program, the large number of applicants usually means that only those who complete the First Semester courses listed below and have completed the TEAS test will be considered for acceptance.  Prospective students should also be aware that the competitive nature of the admissions process makes it unlikely individuals with grade point averages less than 3.0 (“B”) to be accepted (GPA is based on the courses list on this page).
