Nursing - LPN (Terre Haute and Greencastle Campuses)
Patient care is the main responsibility you will have working in a health care facility as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Your responsibilities will include assessing the patient's condition, implementing the patient's nursing regimen, and documenting the patient's care and progress.
These tasks will be performed under the supervision of a physician and / or a registered nurse.
Health care facilities from hospitals to extended-care facilities to clinics will employ you as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The Practical Nursing at Ivy Tech will prepare you to take the state licensing exam so you may become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
As a student of the program, you will study anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, medical/surgical nursing, maternal/child nursing and geriatric nursing.
Throughout your studies, you will be exposed to variety of instructional styles including lecture, labs and clinicals.
These methods have been designed to provide you with the best possible learning environment.
A special focus is placed on the clinical portion of the program to ensure you have adequate first-hand experience prior to graduation.
The Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing is a full-time, one-year program that has specialized admissions requirements.
Enrollment within the program is limited to ensure each graduate has had the maximum learning experience.

Nursing - ASN (Terre Haute and Greencastle Campuses)
As a student you will study areas such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, medical surgical nursing, maternal/child health and geriatric nursing. You will be exposed to a variety of instructional styles including lecture, labs, and clinical. A special focus is placed on the clinical portion of the program to ensure you have adequate first -hand experience prior to graduation. This program accomodates both students interested in nursing as a career and licensed practical nurses choosing to continue their nursing education.
People who find success in a nursing career must be caring and compassionate. A registered nurse's responsibilities depend largely on the work setting. They are advocates and health educators for patients and families, direct patient care givers, assistants to physicians during examinations and procedures, administrators of medications and prescribed treatments, developers and managers of nursing care plans, and supervisors of other health care personnel. As a registered nurse, you may be employed in areas such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, physician's offices or clinics, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, and home health care agencies.
