Surgical Technology
The surgical technology program is one of five such programs offered by Ivy Tech Community College throughout Indiana. The Surgical Technology program is a two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree requiring 67 credit hours to complete. Students enroll in the general technical studies curriculum until they have completed the admissions requirement for the clinical portion of the program.

Through a combination of lecture, laboratory and closely supervised clinical education, the program is designed to enable the student to develop the knowledge and skills needed to become qualified for providing safe and efficient care to the patient in the operating room.

The surgical technologist actively participates in surgery performing scrub and/or circulating duties which include providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team. The surgical technologist works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel.

Progression through the surgical technology program is sequential. Individual course prerequisites must be met before proceeding in Surgical Technology specific courses.
