Student Life Sponsored Campus Programs Spring 2009
Tuesdays & Thursdays, Spring Semester:
Tai Chi Class (12 noon in Oakley Auditorium) – Decrease your stress by attending Tai Chi classes! Certified instructor Steve Walden will conduct the class every Tuesday and Thursday beginning January 15. Everyone is welcome!
Tuesday, January 20:
Inauguration Day 2009 (12 noon in the Oakley Auditorium) – Come witness history as Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. This event is free and open to everyone!
Wednesdays, Spring Semester:
Intramural Basketball (8 p.m. & 9 p.m. at Wabash Valley Family Sports Center) – Students, faculty and staff can sign-up to participate in the FREE Ivy Tech intramural basketball league. The league starts Wednesday, January 28 and ends with a tournament March 25. You must show a current Ivy Tech- Wabash Valley identification card prior to play the night of each game. No card, no play. Come play or watch your favorite player- FREE! Contact John Benton for more details 298-2439.
Wednesday, January 28:
Not So Famous Speaker Series (12 noon in H136B) – Officers from Phi Theta Kappa will lead a discussion surrounding the Phi Theta Kappa honors topic The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges and Consequences. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this free discussion. Feel free to bring your lunch with you.

Bingo (12 noon in the Commons) – Join the fun with Valentine’s Day bingo! Come and possibly win a great Valentine’s Day prize! It’s FREE.
Wednesday, February 11:
Not So Famous Speaker Series (12 noon in H136B) – Marlene Lu will speak about Chinese New Year. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this free discussion. Feel free to bring your lunch with you.
Tuesday, February 17:
Open Mic (11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Commons) – Whether you’re a comedian, poet, singer, musician or story-teller, get on-stage at the Open Mic event and share your talent with the Ivy Tech community. Everyone is welcome to participate in this FREE event.
Thursday, February 19:
Reel Diversity (1 p.m. in Oakley Auditorium) – Brian Johnson frames the diversity conversation through modern film. By sharing clips from well known films and discussing the messages they consciously or unconsciously give, Brian allows every student to see himself or herself as diverse. Students laugh and remember some of their favorite movies, and from there, an interactive presentation about multiculturalism can begin. Friday, February 20:
Michael Kelsey Concert (8 p.m. in Oakley Auditorium) – An Ivy Tech tradition you don’t want to miss! Kelsey pounds, pings, stings, pops, and pulls music out of every part of his instrument or anything else an arm's length or foot kick away in a funky, rhythmic style he calls progressive/aggressive acoustic guitar. Guitar wizard/singer songwriter/performance artist/entertainer all in a one-man-band package, Kelsey performs music for the eyes and ears. Tuesday, February 24:
Ivy Tech Day at the Legislature (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Indianapolis Statehouse) – Students are invited to learn more about our state government, meet with state representatives, tour the Statehouse and witness the state government in action. All interested students must complete a registration form by January 30. This is a free, statewide, student event- transportation and lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so contact Nina Storey at nstorey@ivytech.edu or 298-2288 for a registration form/additional information as soon as possible.
Wednesday, February 25:
Not So Famous Speaker Series (12 noon in H136B) – Allen Shotwell will speak on Vivisection, Blood Transfusion, Microscopes and Air Pumps. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this free discussion. Feel free to bring your lunch with you.
